My episodic cluster headaches started in the late 1990s and I became chronic about three years ago. It took me about six months of deliberation and research before I actually decided to attempt to get a positive grip on this illness. The thing that tipped the boat for me was actually meeting another cluster headache sufferer who had successfully used psilocybin as an alternative treatment in the past. Prior to dosing I was successfully aborting my headaches using sumatriptan jabs, nasal sprays and O2. My Neurologist prescribed verapamil as a preventative, but due to a number of reasons, I didn't ever take it. The pattern of my attacks immediately before the psilocybin treatment was an average of two per day, classically mid-afternoon and a wake-me-up attack about an hour and a half after going to sleep in the evening. Just prior to that it was almost as if I was `episodically chronic', inasmuch as although I often had remission periods of up to days, there were periods that stretched up to weeks where I could have up to five attacks a day. My first psilocybin dose was taken at end of June 2004 and since then I have taken a total of 27 doses of psilocybin mushrooms, varying in dosage of between 0.5g and 2.0g equivalent dried weight, averaging just over 1g per dose overall. The recreational dose on this weight basis is normally 3-4g. All doses were taken in tea and these low doses varied in trip level from between 3 maybe a bit more ; and 1 maybe a bit less ; and despite my initial anxiety, the side effects were more than manageable. The average time between each dose was 14 days and has varied from between 3 and 82 days. The efficacy following each dose was somewhat erratic, but the general pattern was that shortly after each dose there was an increase in the number attacks, followed by a few days completely pain free, and then things would start ramping up again until the next dose. As I said earlier, prior to dosing I was experiencing an average of two attacks per day. Since dosing, I have had a total of 427 completely pain free days out of a total of 590 days i.e. 72%. I have still had over 200 attacks over this period, but none of these have gone over a Kip 6 and I haven't used sumatriptan as an abortive since my first dose. I still experienced attacks in 2005, but have now regained my episodic status, and only two attacks in the last year have reached a Kip 4, the remainder just Kip 3 or less. Because of the new laws in the UK in respect of fresh psilocybe mushrooms, coupled with recent anecdotal successes from clusterbusters and elsewhere, I began experimenting with LSA containing seeds as preventative in the summer of last year. Since then, I have managed to stretch out my dosing period to three months or so apart, and I have had a total of 154 completely pain free days out of a total of 174 days i.e. 89%. I now hoping to stretch this dosing period further into 2006 and, of course, continue to increase this pain free percentage figure. by Peter May.

We look forward to your comments. Bariatric surgery Carroll M. Harmon, Birmingham, Alabama, reviewed the topic of bariatric surgery in children. A typical response to the topic, he said, is of disbelief that such an approach would even be considered. Yet more than one million adolescents and young adults have BMI 40 kg m2, and obesity is by far the most common nutritional disorder among children in the U.S. Childhood obesity is associated with poor self-esteem, steatohepatitis, and a variety of cardiovascular and endocrine complications, with 80% of overweight children with one obese parent becoming obese adults. Harmon reviewed representative studies, showing that by standard measures, the quality of life of an obese child is similar to that of a child with cancer and fivefold worse than that of a healthy normal-weight child. Parent proxy reports suggest even greater impairment. Obstructive sleep apnea OSA ; is present in 55% of severely obese children with BMI 50 kg m2. Overweight children have a sevenfold greater risk of hypertriglyceridemia, and 86% of children diagnosed with diabetes are overweight or obese. The prevalence of childhood obesity among blacks and Hispanics is higher than among whites, with the likelihood of diabetes particularly great for AfricanAmerican and Hispanic children. There is undoubtedly, Harmon concluded, inter.
Cases, sensory perceptions may blend in a phenomenon known as synesthesia, in which a person seems to hear or feel colors and see sounds. Hallucinations distort or transform shapes and movements, and they may give rise to a perception that time is moving very slowly or that the user's body is changing shape. On some trips, users experience sensations that are enjoyable and mentally stimulating and that produce a sense of heightened understanding. Bad trips, however, include terrifying thoughts and nightmarish feelings of anxiety and despair that include fears of insanity, death, or losing control. LSD users quickly develop a high degree of tolerance for the drug's effects: After repeated use, they need increasingly larger doses to produce similar effects. LSD use also produces tolerance for other hallucinogenic drugs such as psilocybin and mescaline, but not to drugs such as marijuana, amphetamines, and PCP, which do not act directly on the serotonin receptors affected by LSD. Tolerance for LSD is shortlived--it is lost if the user stops taking the drug for several days. There is no evidence that LSD produces physical withdrawal symptoms when chronic use is stopped. Two long-term effects-- persistent psychosis and hallucinogen persisting perception disorder HPPD ; , more commonly referred to as "flashbacks"-- have been associated with use and relafen.

N JUNE 2004, at a meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in New Orleans, the most important cancer research findings of the year were presented in a standing room only ; plenary session. Included in these findings were the results of an international clinical trial for patients with a brain tumour called glioblastoma multiforme. This tumour is highly malignant and has proven to be difficult to control, even with surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. The trial, the result of collaboration between European and Canadian researchers, studied the results of treatment with a combination of radiation and a pill form of chemotherapy called temozolomide. This study was initiated for a number of reasons. First, temozolomide is so well tolerated that it makes sense to combine it with other treatments to see if tumour cells can be killed more effectively without making people sick. Second, lab experiments indicate that combining temozolomide with radiation seems to improve the effectiveness of radiation. Finally, there is some evidence that a small, daily dose of temozolomide tackles one of the biggest problems in cancer treatment the ability of cancer cells to become resistant to therapy. In the clinical trial, patients with glioblastoma were "randomly assigned" to one of two treatment groups. This means that, in the interest of fairness and impartiality, a computer chose which treatment each person would receive.
Mushrooms were eaten in a ritual context Wasson 1980: 113 ; . When one considers the portrayals of mushrooms in scriptural codices and the mushroom effigy altars, it becomes difficult to argue against the idea that mushroom ceremonies were being performed in ancient times much like they were when Wasson participated in the Oaxacan Velada in 1955. There are over 20 different species of entheogenic mushrooms found in Mexico so it is reasonable to make the connection between the known transcendental properties of psioocybin mushrooms and the use of mushroom altars in ritual consumption ceremonies Dobkin de Rios 1974: 148 ; . If one looks at Wasson's description of the experience, it becomes clear that if indeed these mushrooms were being used in religious ceremonies, the cultural impact would be considerable. This is especially true in the case of Amerindian traditions. In the context of their holistic worldview, these experiences would not be considered illusions; rather, the visions caused by these mushrooms would be interpreted as genuine voyages to otherworldly realms and serzone.
Websites and storefronts selling Canadian drugs are proliferating across the country. Direct mailings are being sent to consumers and physicians alike applauding the savings that can be obtained by ordering prescription and nonprescription medication from Canadian pharmacies. Canada's state-sponsored healthcare system imposes cost controls on prescription drugs; thus, pharmacies can offer drugs to consumers at anywhere from a 20 percent to sometimes more than 50 percent savings compared to U.S. pharmacies.
